We survived our first hurricane as Florida residents.
Last night, we brought in every. single. little. thing we had outside. Our grill, outdoor rug, wicker sectional, cushions, plants, trash cans, etc. I learned you don’t actually realize just how many belongings you have to gather outside until it all has to be brought in so they don’t become dangerous projectiles. If anything, I learned that we could probably do without a few things we’ve brought in, but thankfully we’re not hoarders with tons of crap.
Unfortunately not everyone in Florida fared okay. I’m thankful that we don’t have downed trees in our area, and I’m grateful that despite the severe tornado watch nothing happened in our area. The western panhandle of Florida has over 200k without power, flooding, and lots of downed trees.
Tropical Storm Hermine (aka Invest 99-L and a million other names) messed up our travel plans this weekend. Today we’re missing our friends’ wedding in Mystic, Connecticut as our flights were cancelled. I know they’ll have a beautiful day today.
On a lighter note, at least Floridians are having a good ‘ol time making penis jokes about Tropical Storm Hermine. A local Florida news station inadvertently drew a phallus-shaped storm path in the meteorology portion of the news. I won’t add the photo here (it’s a bit graphic) but you can see their public Facebook faux-pas post here.
With that, I’m out and off to haul all of our stuff back outside.
Have a safe Labor Day weekend everyone!
