Savannah is one of the nation’s most haunted cities. Last Halloween I was still recovering from knee surgery and I couldn’t enjoy a good ghost tour. They’re all walking tours, and being that Savannah doesn’t abide by open container laws you can go ahead and enjoy a good Mint Julep or Georgia Peach Martini during the fright fest.
Last weekend we enjoyed the unusually low humidity and warm weather out on the town. We met friends at the infamous 17hundred90 Restaurant and Inn, ‘Savannah’s Most Haunted Inn.’ Supposedly Miley Cyrus stayed here during the filming of The Last Song on Tybee Island. And not just in any room. They stayed in THE most haunted room. Reportedly, she and her crew didn’t last the night, or so the Inn claims.
The Kehoe House, built in 1892, is one of the only 4-star bed and breakfasts in the South. It was used as a funeral home for most of the 20th century. It’s also very haunted. There have been numerous complaints of children running down the halls at night, even though children are discouraged from staying at this 4-star establishment.
A worker once ignored the ringing doorbell, even though the front glass doors didn’t have anyone standing before them. When she ignored the third persistent ring, the doors unlocked and opened on their own, along with every other outside door in the building. Spooky!
Apparently, above this cupola in a tiny little room, is the most ghost traffic in the entire building. People have heard a little boy say “Come play with me!” The Kehoe family had many children, of which a set of twins died in the house. So much history in one building!
William Kehoe was a rich man due to his business of iron. Which might explain all the gorgeous scroll ironwork throughout the historic district. Below is a gorgeous building facing the Kehoe house across Columbus Square.
Twilight fell and we eventually found ourselves back at the 17hundred90 Inn and Restaurant. We met an author and leader of a famous Savannah ghost tour in the bar. We plan on taking his tour really soon, and hopefully more this October.
Remember me saying Miley Cyrus and her crew didn’t stay the night? I wonder why…

We went on the green trolley company’s ghost tour. Their garage is actually on the site of a house where Savannah’s first triple murder occurred (don’t remember the street, but it’s across from the battlefield marker and the museum). It was an enjoyable tour, even though I’m a huge wimp and get scared at everything.

Amazing! I’m obsessed with history and spooky stuff. I always go on ghost tours when I visit a new city. AND Savannah is the last city in the US that I want to see and haven’t yet! So much fun :)

We are heading to Savannah next month & are actually staying around the corner from the 17 Hundred 90. I actually just bought a Restaurant.com gift certificate for there, so we will be enjoying lunch or dinner there. And we have watched the couple of Ghost Adventures they have shot in Savannah- spooky! We are definitely planning on taking one of the hauntings tours while we are there. Now I am even more excited to go after reading your post! ;)
