Do you see anything wrong with this picture? If you’re like me, this sight will send you into inexplicable fits of anger.
You know what I’m talking about.
I know you have a strong preference for one or the other: over or under.
Me? I secretly curse every person in every house that hangs them with the paper falling under the roll. And, if I find it hanging under at your house, I will change it. Why? I’ll share some of my legit concerns.
What if the person in there before you is extremely careless and (gag me) left “something” on the last square? You won’t see it right away because it faces away from you against the wall. Unless you take the time to look at that square, you’re effed.
Or how about in a public bathroom? Whenever the paper hangs under the roll, you pray to high heaven that the ribbon doesn’t break off and gets trapped inside that bulky dispenser. Otherwise you’ll have to dig into that thing and pray to God you won’t find an unexpected surprise in there. Or in my case, nick your skin on the serrated plastic and worry about contracting some disease. That would be tearable! (ba-dum boosh!)
That’s why I make sure to ALWAYS have the TP hanging over the roll, free and clear of any irrational real dangers of the “under” hanging rolls (side eye). Especially when I have guests staying with us.
This Thanksgiving weekend, my in-laws are staying with us, and for that I cannot WAIT! They’re amazing people to have around. They also understand my quirks and know the proper way to hang a toilet paper roll.
But because I bought Cottonelle TRIPLE ROLLS, I won’t have to worry about changing rolls while they’re here. Seriously, they’re as big as my head! Some people will go cheap and switch their two-ply rolls with one-ply when they have company over. To that I say: you better hope they’re the kind of people that wash their hands. Enough said.
I trust Cottonelle with our…business. And you can betcha that those rolls will be sitting pretty with the paper hanging on top. Maybe even with a little bow on top? Maybe even with a little triangle like nice hotels do? (They understand this TP business).
So, are you an over or under person?
Michael says
TP should ALWAYS be over. Under is just wrong, plain and simple.
Lisette says
Thank you Michael! You understand my plight!
Rachel says
I agree..I do not like the hanging toilet paper!
Caitlin says
I have never had a preference! I don’t know why it doesn’t bother me, because I am so anal about everything else in life!
Lisette says
Really?? That IS odd, knowing you! ;)
Louisa @ My Family & Abruzzo says
I am so with you on this! Even at friends’ houses, I….errr…put the roll facing the correct way. It’s like the toothpaste tube, but don’t get me started…. : /
Lisette says
Oh my gosh. Are you referring to people squeezing the tube from the middle instead of from the end???
Louisa says
Yes! : ) It’s so annoying!
Lisa @ Sorority Life to Army Wife says
I don’t understand the people who genuinely have no opinion on the over / under debate. I swear I’ve seen toilet paper both ways in my in-laws’ house. How do they not care? And #teamover all the way.
Emilie says
Oh God, I have NO tolerance for under roll. I need a drink.
Breenah says
I agreed with over until Quinn decided toilet paper was totally fun to play with. She hasn’t figured out how to unroll it if it’s under. Yet.
Jo-Anne says
I am one of those people who don’t give a rats ass if it is over or under I just want it on it’s holder. I am married to a man who will not put the roll on it’s holder he just sits it next to the toilet and that drives me bat crazy……..
Kenzie says
I am so with you on the toilet paper always having to be over. If I am at a friend’s house and theirs is under I change it for them :) It’s what friends do.
Chloe says
Over, for sure. Anyone who hangs it under is a lazy slob and just doesn’t care.
Danielle @ The-Lifestyle-Project says
I’m an “over” person too and it drives me crazy when TP is hung the other way. I’d say most people don’t share my passion about this but … you wrote a whole blog post so clearly I’m not the only one lol. BTW, WHO changes their toilet paper to one ply when guests come over?! Who even buys one ply aside from really cheap coffee shops and schools?
Lisette says
Haha! You literally made me LOL! One of the chefs on The Chew said she does that. Not Dr. Oz’s daughter. The other woman.
Danielle @ The-Lifestyle-Project says
She should be ashamed, that’s so embarrassing that she’d want her guests to have the mediocre shit (pardon my pun) while she saves the quality TP for herself. Some people are just so cheap!
Amanda says
OVER!!!! People who put it under are wrong and must be stopped!
Chelsea says
This is actually hilarious, because it’s definitely an everyday thought for me. My BF barely ever changes over the TP roll, but for example when he did it today (for one of the first times ever, ahah) he put the TP UNDER. Who does that!?!?! Come on! It makes it so awkward to unroll. Hahahah.
Nicole @ Treasure Tromp says
I totally admit to changing people’s TP roll if it fall under instead of over. it drives me crazy!
Lisette says
Bahaha! I’m so glad I’m not the only one. You’ll never have to do that in my house ;)
And I’m really looking forward on reading that blog post of yours on tracking blogs! (I love CommentLuv)
