I don’t know about you, but from the day I became a wife, it’s seemed as if I also became a mom… to my man-child. Okay, maybe he’s not that bad :) He’s made grand strides in six years. Now, if only his laundry (oil stains are the bane of my existence) would wash, dry, fold and put itself away. I kid… ish.
Anyway, part of being married involves ensuring your healthcare needs and those of family members (whether spouse, children, or fur babies) are met. Brian has recently taken to seeing a primary care doctor (I’m so proud!) but beyond that, I have to be diligent in making sure he sees other doctors such as the dentist and the eye doctor.
I noticed that he’s complained of eye strain, eye fatigue and not being able to see well. Having been a near-sighted person all my life until receiving LASIK eye surgery 12 years ago, I wasn’t able to tell if he was having problems with nearby objects or far away objects. So, I proposed he see the eye doctor.
You guys. That was three years ago. THREE.
It was pulling teeth to get him to the dentist, as he needed a molar pulled (no pun intended) but the eye doctor was a different story. He didn’t want to deal with eye dilation and shades for hours on end after a vision appointment.
I honestly couldn’t blame him. I remember year after year inevitably suffering exaggerated eye blurriness after my eye exams that required wearing shades indoors before it was an actual thing. So I knew I had to trick him convince him that this time it would be different. This time, he could go right back to work without looking like a drug lord with big shades at his desk.
That’s why I brought him to see Dr. Womack at the Pearle Vision Eye Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Since Brian needs to see the value in taking time away from work, I knew that I needed to take him to an eye center that builds relationships with you, your family, and throughout the neighborhood. Even better, Pearle Vision doesn’t need to dilate your eyes. They have a nifty machine that takes pictures of the INSIDES of your eyeballs.
I was convinced that if this didn’t motivate my man-child, nothing would.
Before Brian met with Dr. Womack, one of the Pearle Vision technicians prepared him for the Optomap retinal exam. It was really cool watching how the machine took pictures of his eyes (stay tuned for a video in an upcoming post!). Margie was super nice and helped Brian relax during the exam.
After that, Dr. Womack explained to us what we were seeing in the Optomap retinal exam results. We learned that Brian has astigmatism, but other than that, his retinas look really healthy which help Brian ignore me when I’m asking him to take out the trash. Thanks, doc, for confirming what this man-child’s wife has known all along.
We finished up by the familiar refraction test. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to yell out ONE! or TWO! when Dr. Womack asked Brian which lens he saw better through. But then I thought it was probably wiser to allow the man-child enjoy his visit so as not to ruin our good fortune. I was a good wife and didn’t provoke the man-child :)
All in all, both man-child and wife were extremely pleased with the genuine, high-quality, expert eye care we received from Dr. Womack and the wonderful team at Pearle Vision. Brian specifically mentioned how he appreciated Dr. Womack’s explanations during the consultation, because he felt that the doctor was able to express the value of his visit in a non-sales-pitch kind of way. I sincerely believe that the Optomap digital retinal exam was what sold Brian on seeing the local eye doctor. I’m very happy to report that it exceeded our expectations!
Thank you, Doctor Womack, for helping make this doctor’s visit a memorable one for both me and my man-child! I was so pleased with the service that I plan to go back to have my own eyes checked!
