I couldn’t help it. I’ve heard so many of these clever one-liners on Twitter describing the debacle that unfolded on national TV this season on the bachelor. Not one to normally watch this show (I blame my only dedicated seasons to my undergrad years as a sorority girl and now that I’m in this network of bloggers) this season captivated my attention for a few reasons.
Ok. Just kidding. Not many reasons except that it makes for terribly addictive reality TV. But really, as a Latina, the fact that this Bachelor is Hispanic did draw my attention. But just between you and me, his occasional words of Spanish (mis niñas, besitos, and my least favorite ¡Ay que rico! ) and his air kisses made me totally shudder and cringe at the same time. It makes my skin crawl still thinking of it. I rather hear “IT’S OKAY!” a million times.
Have you ever had sleazy old men catcalling you on the streets? I have…
Juan Pablo reminds me of a younger, cockier version of those men. And that notorious date with Clare (where I’m sure they played a not-so-discreet game of “just the tip”) is still gross. Way to set an example for your little girl there, Juan-track-mind.
Speaking to other bloggers and scrolling through Twitter it was clear that a LOT of women hate this man. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so here are my honest thoughts: Juan Pablo’s bachelor career ended the day Sharleen decided to leave. I believe she was the one who captivated him the most, and that was even before watching the Women Tell All episode last night on Hulu. Sharleen was smart in leaving a situation where she felt she was being pressured into jumping into things. But then again, the same argument could be made as to why she put herself through this experience in the first place, no? I do think, however, that many women empathized with Sharleen when she said that their chemistry scared her a bit.
The interview with Nikki was painful to watch. There’s just no other way to describe it. If there’s ever been a girl who is lying to herself on national TV, it’s Nikki. It’s clear that Juan Pablo doesn’t have the same feelings for her. It was also clear that JP was trying to convince himself of his spoils during that last rose ceremony. JP– when you have several girls drop out of the running, take note. You’re doing something wrong.
Anyone else think Sharleen was the girl for him?
